Buildings and Codes Enforcement

The Building & Codes office is responsible for review and issuance of building permits in compliance with the New York State versions of the International Codes as well as enforcement of the Towns local laws and ordinances. Annually, we review about 900 building permit submissions that are associated with plans comprising of, on average, $50 million.  Our Code Enforcement Officers’ focus is on compliance with the NYS Building Code while we perform approximately 6000 on-site inspections of projects under construction per year.

We regulate the licensing of manufactured home communities, junkyards and the local flood damage protection law.  In addition, we respond to complaints regarding suspected violations of the NYS Building Codes as well as construction without a building permit, unfit living conditions, uncontrolled junk, disposal of garbage and refuse, short term rentals, new and replacement septic system inspections, property transfer septic inspections and other quality of life violations.
