The Office of Town Clerk is an elected position with a four-year term.

Every Town is required to have a Town Clerk. In the 1800’s the Town Clerk was a member of the Town Board. In the 1900s, the Town Clerk left the Town Board to focus on administrative duties. Today, the Town Clerk still performs many important administrative duties on behalf of the State and Town Government.

The Town Clerk’s Office is frequently considered the center of Town Government. The Town Clerk serves residents directly through the issuance of licenses and records management. In addition, the Town Clerk serves the Town Board as the recording secretary for Town Board meetings.

The Queensbury Town Clerk also serves as Records Access Officer, Records Management Officer and as Head Cashier for all departments within the Town.
In addition to her Town Clerk duties and responsibilities, the Queensbury Town Clerk is appointed Receiver of Taxes, which corresponds with each of her four-year terms. This appointment requires the collection and disbursement of annual Town & County Property Taxes and School Taxes for three School Districts within the Town of Queensbury. Additionally, this office is charged with collecting and disbursing quarterly water and sewer utility bills. There are over 13,000 parcels within the Town and over 9,000 with water and sewer utility services.

Caroline Barber is serving in her fourth term as Queensbury Town Clerk having started her first term on January 1 st , 2014. Prior to that she served as Administrative Secretary to the late Hon. J. Timothy Breen, Acting Supreme Court Justice and Family Court Judge from May of 2006 until December of 2013. Caroline also served as 1 st Deputy Town Clerk for the Town of Queensbury
from January 1st, 1988 to May of 2006. Caroline, a lifelong resident, has proudly served the Queensbury Community for over 30 years.
