The Town of Queensbury is officially updating its web and email domain from Queensbury.net to QueensburyNY.gov. This transition will occur over the next few months.
This change reflects the Town’s ongoing commitment to transparency, security, and accessibility. Below are a few key reasons for the transition:
- Stronger Security and Public Trust
Moving to a .gov domain enhances online security and helps safeguard against phishing, spoofing, and other cyber threats. Because .gov domains are managed by the U.S. federal government, they are far more secure and difficult to misuse.
- Improved Online Visibility
A .gov domain boosts credibility and search engine recognition, making it easier for residents, businesses, and visitors to find trusted information about the Town online.
- Exclusively for Government Use
The .gov domain is reserved for verified government entities. This ensures authenticity and maintains the integrity of digital services provided to the public.
- Greater Confidence for Residents
When users see a .gov address, they can be confident they are engaging with an official, secure, and legitimate source of government information.
“Switching from .net to .gov is an important step in protecting our community online. With federally regulated domains, we gain stronger safeguards and added confidence for our residents,” said John Strough, Town Supervisor.
During the transition period, all Queensbury.net email addresses will automatically forward to the new QueensburyNY.gov addresses. Likewise, the Town’s former web address will redirect to QueensburyNY.gov to ensure a smooth and seamless experience for all users.
